EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby believes the EU can play a more active role in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
In the context of deepening relations with the regional states, the EU could play a more active role in the peace process – not as a substitute for the OSCE Minsk Group, but as support, Semneby told a press conference on his visit to Azerbaijan. He pointed out the need for mutual confidence, as well as for finding the ways of the EU’s assistance to the conflict resolution.
The Trend news agency reports that Semneby also spoke of U.S. Secretary Hillary Clinton’s forthcoming visit to the region. He pointed out that the visit will play an important role in the negotiations, as the U.S. plans to use the visit for facilitating the peace process.
