Armenia’s first President, the Leader of the Oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Ter-Petrosyan asked Vano Siradeghyan through a mediator to interfere in the ongoing processes in the ex-ruling Armenian National Movement Party (ANM) and influence Ararat Zurabyan, Hraparak daily reports, referring its own sources.

Vano Siradeghyan did not refuse the ANC leader and sent a letter to Ararat Zurabyan, who recently resigned from the post of the ANM Chairman. Siradeghyan tried to persuade Zurabyan to obey Levon Ter-Petrosyan and not to dissolve the party.

ANM Board Chairman Ararat Zurabyan recently resigned. At the June 17 sitting, the board accepted his resignation. Earlier, AMN Deputy Chairman Khachatur Kokobelyan had handed in his resignation.

In an interview with NEWS.am, Zurabyan had said his resignation had nothing to do with the accusations that he and Kokobelyan collaborated with the authorities.

The ANM is to hold a congress on July 17. Zurabyan does not rule out his candidacy will again be put forward. Vahan Papazyan, Yerjanik Abgaryan and Babken Araktsyan are among the candidates.

Vano Siradeghyan, one of the influential leaders of the Armenian National Movement, is wanted by the police and Interpol.
