Head of the Religious Council of the Armenian Patriarchate Archbishop Aram Ateshyan was elected Deputy Patriarch of Constantinople.

On June 29, a session of the Religious Council of the Armenian Patriarchate was held. Twenty-five of the 26 Council members voted for Aram Ateshyan.

Aram Ateshyan will be in charge of religious affairs of the Armenian community with Mesrob Mutafyan alive.

Armenian Patricarch of Constantinople Archbishop Mesrob II Mutafyan is unable to perform his duties due to health problems.
