The very fact the Obama, Medvedev, Sarkozy statement elicited such a strong response is a positive one, the member of the “Heritage” parliamentary faction Larisa Alaverdyan stated at the July 2 press conference, commenting on the Presidents’ statement on  Nagorno-Karabakh,  issued at the G8 Summit in Canada.

According to her, though the authorities had diametrically opposite views on the statement, the positive fact is that both sides speak of the statement. “However, there are certain points the Heritage faction is firmly opposing,” she said.

Alaverdyan pointed out the interim status of Nagorno-Karabakh. “We say ‘no’ to any new referendum in Karabakh, as the NKR confirmed its independence in the referendum on December 10, 1991,” Alaverdyan stressed.

The deployment of peacekeeping forces in Karabakh is also unacceptable, she emphasized. The Armenian side has been able to maintain the ceasefire over the last 16 years without mediation of external forces,” Alaverdyan noted.
