The first international conference, entitled “World against Violence and Extremism,” was convened, from Monday to Wednesday, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ashot Hovakimian represented Armenia at the event.

Hovakimian, among many other speakers at the conference, strongly condemned the violence against the ethnic and religious minorities by the terrorist groups operating in Syria and Iraq. In this connection, he pointed to the terrorists’ blasting of the Holy Martyrs Armenian Church, which is located in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, and is devoted to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Within the framework of the aforementioned conference, Hovakimian on Wednesday met with Abbas Araghchi, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran. They discussed Armenian-Iranian cooperation within international organizations.
