YEREVAN. – Latvia will take additional steps to expand relations with Armenia.

Latvian Minister for Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs, who is in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan on a working visit, said the aforementioned at his meeting Friday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian.

Nalbandian, for his part, underscored the regular discourse between Armenia and Latvia.

During the ensuing talk, the two ministers noted that relations between the two countries are developing in dynamic fashion. Nalbandian and Rinkēvičs also reflected on the steps that need to be taken to develop relations between the two countries.

The agenda of the FMs’ talks included the holding of regular consultations between the MFAs of Armenia and Latvia, and collaboration within international organizations. They also spoke about cooperation between the parliaments of both countries.

In the context of Latvia’s forthcoming Presidency of the European Union (EU) in the first half next year, the interlocutors discussed Armenia-EU collaboration, too.

The agenda of the two FMs also included the avenues for expanding trade and economic cooperation.

Separately, Edward Nalbandian briefed his Latvian colleague on the ongoing efforts which Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries (US, Russia, and France) are making to achieve a pacific settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and on the present-day situation as a result of Azerbaijan’s recent shoot-down of a Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Air Force helicopter, which was on a training flight.

In addition, the ministers exchanged views on the current regional issues.

Subsequently, Edward Nalbandian and Edgars Rinkēvičs held a joint news conference.
