YEREVAN. – Saturday’s meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan, was not encouraging for the workers of the Nairit chemical rubber plant of capital city Yerevan.

Nairit Trade Union Committee Head Hrach Tadevosyan, who participated in this talk with the PM, informed about the aforesaid after the meeting.

“Now, there is an ongoing judicial process with the Russian Interstate Bank to bring back the shares of Nairit. They say that they can say when they will repay [the salary debts] solely after bringing the shares back,” Tadevosyan told the plant employees who had assembled outside the Government Building, where the talk was conducted.

But he added that, during the meeting, an agreement was reached to the effect that the Nairit workers will receive a one month’s salary on December 15, and another one-month wage by no later than January 15 of the coming year.

As per the plant’s trade union chief, they will assemble at the Nairit courtyard on December 15 to determine their next steps.

“We will set up a board, and this board will determine our future courses of action,” Hrach Tadevosyan stated.

The overdue 18-month salaries of the employees of the Nairit chemical rubber plant—which is currently inactive—total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million. These workers have assembled outside the Government Building for days demanding a solution to their problems.
