YEREVAN. - Russian border guards prevented smuggling attempt from Armenia to Iran, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

According to the press service of the Russian FSB Border Guard Department in Armenia, the citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran attempted to illegally smuggle in his truck parts of drilling rigs and alcoholic beverages from Armenia to Iran on Saturday. The smuggler has been stopped at the border crossing on departure from the Republic of Armenia at the Agarak checkpoint.

During the inspection of the vehicle Russian border guards revealed contraband items in a specially equipped cache of the vehicle. The goods and the offender were handed over to Meghri Customs officials for further proceedings. According to preliminary estimates, the value of smuggled goods is over AMD 1,300,000.
