The Armenian Opposition is united and continues struggling against the incumbent regime, Karen Karapetyan, a Board member, Armenian National Movement (ANM), and representative of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), told NEWS.am, commenting on a statement by Chairman of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisyan, who called on the Opposition to consolidate on the threshold of parliamentary elections.

“Eighteen opposition parties and a number of public organizations have united to form the Armenian National Congress and are jointly struggling for a change of power,” he said.

As regards Hovhannisyan’s statement that all the three Armenian presidents are equally responsible for the March 1 events, Karapetyan stressed that it is the incumbent authorities that are fully responsible for the tragedy. The Opposition and its Leader, Armenia’s first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, were only holding peaceful actions of protest, which met with violence on the authorities’ part. “So Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s responsibility for the March 1 events is out of the question,” Karapetyan said.

As for Hovhannisyan’s demand that all the three presidents, as well as the officials that amassed property at the people’s expense, be punished and their property be nationalized, Karapetyan said: “Hovhannisyan’s words cannot be addressed to Ter-Petrosyan or his team, as under the AMN no official became a millionaire through abuse office. Of course, there were individual cases, which happens at all times under all regimes. At least, it was not such a widespread phenomenon under the ANM as it is now.”
