YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Sunday had a telephonic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian President once again extended his condolences to the relatives of the victims of the Gyumri tragedy, and the entire people of Armenia.

Vladimir Putin also expressed confidence that a comprehensive and effective investigation will be conducted, and the guilty will be punished by law, informed the Press Office of the President of Armenia.

President Sargsyan, for his part, underscored that the Armenian law enforcement agencies will actively continue taking the necessary measures to fully expose all the details in this incident. In this regard, the Armenian and Russian leaders attached great importance to promoting close cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of both countries.

In addition, the Russian President expressed the hope that the best doctors of Armenia and Russia will make every effort to help young Seryozha—the sole member of the Avetisyan family to survive Monday’s tragedy—recover. Putin also expressed readiness to send a special Russian medical helicopter to Armenia in order to transfer the baby to Moscow for further treatment.

Presidents Sargsyan and Putin also discussed several matters that are on the agenda of Armenian-Russian relations.

The telephonic conversation took place at the initiative of the Russian side.

As reported earlier, six members of the Avetisyan family—including a two-year-old girl—were shot dead, and a six-month-old baby boy was wounded in their house in Gyumri on Monday. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman of the 102nd Russian Military Base in the city, stands accused in this crime.

The soldier is charged under Russian law, with “the murder of more than two people,” and “desertion with a service weapon.” The Investigative Committee of Armenia also has launched a criminal case on the murders.
