Presently the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are preparing a meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs on the margins of OSCE Informal Ministerial to be held on July 16-17 in Almaty, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at the joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski in Yerevan.

Edward Nalbandian noted if the meeting takes place, Armenian side should know whether Azerbaijan is ready to continue the negotiations based on the last version of the Madrid Principles presented in Saint Petersburg, as it had been agreed earlier. It is the objective of the Almaty meeting, he emphasized. The Armenian FM also added that he has already responded to all the fancies by Azerbaijan in the person of his deputy Shavarsh Kocharyan.

The Armenian FM stressed that Azerbaijan rejects all the previously presented proposals and agreements, including the Madrid principles, ceasefire regime, and the withdrawal of the snipers from the contact line. “Thus, the Almaty meeting will greatly depend on whether Azerbaijan would recognize the last version of the Madrid Principles offered in Saint Petersburg,” he added.

As to Azerbaijan’s initiative to push forward a draft resolution on Karabakh to the agenda of the UN Security Council, Nalbandian underscored it would negatively affect the peace process, adding that the states contributing to the resolution share the Armenian side’s opinion.

In his turn, Polish FM evaded the question on warlike statements by Azerbaijan, a country that is a member of the Council of Europe and claims for the association membership to EU.
