The signing of any document on the sidelines of the OSCE Informal Ministerial is unlikely. However, the fact the negotiations are underway is positive, political scientist Stepan Grigoryan told NEWS.am.

“This accounts for the sides’ completely different positions. Azerbaijan seeks to make changes in the basic principles on the Karabakh peace process,” he noted.

According to him, the Azerbaijani side tries to undermine the idea and exclude from the Madrid Principles the point on the determination of final status of Nagorno-Karabakh, in terms of legally binding free will expression.

“The evidence thereof is the recent statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev,” Grigoryan stressed.

As NEWS.am reported previously, a meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers with their French, Russian and U.S. counterparts is planned on the sidelines of informal OSCE ministerial meeting in Almaty, to be held on July 16-17.
