Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is invited to visit Armenia, said RA Ambassador in Tehran Grigor Arakelyan.

The Ambassador pointed out Iran’s unbiased stance on the Karabakh peace process. He also added that the Armenian Government is grateful to Tehran for its position on Karabakh, saying it has acted influentially on the regional issues.  

“Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has already declared that Iran’s role in the settlement of regional issues cannot be ignored. Iran took charge of mediation in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1992 and the first ceasefire between Azeri and Armenian nations was declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” ISNA news agency quotes Arakelyan.

Commenting on Iran’s nuke program, the Armenian Ambassador noted that the issue should be settled through negotiations.

Grigor Arakelyan also touched upon trade turnover between the states, stressing that present turnover volume of $200m should be increased.

He also added that Armenia will build the third high voltage power line to supply electricity to Iran.

Moreover, a hydro-power plant will be constructed on the Armenian-Iranian border (on Araks river) to be jointly used by the two states, he emphasized.
