On July 19, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan participated in the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva. The opening ceremony took place in the UN Palace of Nations in Geneva.

The Speakers of over 150 parliaments and heads of the international agencies attend the conference, RA parliamentary press service informed NEWS.am. 102 speakers are expected to deliver a speech.

The speech of the Armenian Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan is scheduled for July 21. General debate “Parliaments in a world of crisis: securing global democratic accountability for the common good” was held during the first day of the conference.

Hovik Abrahamyan had a number of bilateral meetings following the first session. During the meeting with the President of House of Representatives of Cyprus Marios Garoyian, Armenian Speaker offered to organize business forums to develop economic relations. Garoyian extended an invitation to Hovik Abrahamyan to pay an official visit to Cyprus and welcomed his decision to hold a business forum.  

The sides discussed cooperation within international agencies, as well as Karabakh peace process. Garoyian stressed that Armenia can always expect Cyprus’s support in the international organizations.

The same day the Armenian Speaker met with the President of Monaco National Council Jean-Francois Robillon. Hovik Abrahamyan spoke of Karabakh peace process, noting that Armenia sees resolution of the conflict only within OSCE Minsk Group format.
