On July 20, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 3rd conference of the Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva, RA Foreign Ministry press service informed NEWS.am.

At the meeting with the Chairman of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, Abrahamyan stressed Armenia appreciates high Lebanese Government’s balanced stance on the Karabakh peace process. Nabih Berri noted Armenian Speaker’s official visit to Lebanon gave a new impetus to the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

Later, Abrahamyan met with the Bahraini Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh. The latter emphasized, there is a parliamentary friendship group in Bahraini Parliament, which will contribute to the cooperation within international agencies. The officials made a point of intensification of bilateral economic cooperation and business contacts. The speakers conveyed official invitations to visit Armenia and Kingdom of Bahrain.

Armenian Speaker also met with Speaker of Syrian Parliament Mahmoud al-Abrash. According to Abrahamyan, presently Armenian-Syrian relations are at a high level and dozens of interstate documents signed between Damascus and Yerevan are a firm basis for cooperation.

Abrahamyan presented Syrian Speaker the recent developments in the Karabakh peace process. Mahmoud al-Abrash said Syria, as Armenia is a peace-loving country and stressed the necessity for a peaceful conflict settlement.
