Obviously, after the May 1, 2008 events the Country of Law party will not regain its reputation, as its political future fully depends on Serzh Sargsyan’s will and the access to power, Andranik Tevanyan, the head of the Political Economy analytic center, told NEWS.am, commenting on a statement made by Vice-Chairman of the Country of Law party Mher Shahgeldyan that the party will participate in the parliamentary elections, but not in the presidential election. According to him, the party’s chances to get into Parliament are rather slight.

“As regards other political forces, I think the Republican Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party will independently participate in the parliamentary elections,” Tevanyan said. He pointed out that a political vacuum has been formed in the Armenian political arena.

“The authorities proved a failure, from the viewpoint of both domestic and foreign policy,” he said. Tevanyan pointed out that the Armenian National Congress (ANC) led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan is a morally and psychologically disunited political force.  

Vice-Chairman of the Country of Law party Mher Shahgeldyan stated that the party will not participate in the next presidential election, but will remain part of the alliance formed by Artur Baghdasaryan (Chairman of the Country of Law party) and Serzh Sargsyan (Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia).
