On July 26, Azerbaijani press spread regular misinformation, adjusting the statement by French OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Bernard Fassier to the recent developments on recognition of Kosovo’s independence by the International Court of Justice.
European Azerbaijan Society suddenly recalled Fassier’s March statement and intentionally omitted the date in their article. Thus, the article by Azerbaijani media says that Fassier is presently on a visit to Yerevan.
There is no parallel between Kosovo and Nagorno-Karabakh. Seven surrounding regions were occupied by the Armenian side and the territories are still under occupation, he said. According to him, the fact postpones the return of refugees and internally displaced to their houses. Not a single country has recognized Karabakh, unlike Kosovo. Thus, Kosovo cannot be considered as a precedent, Fassier said at the NATO Rose Roth seminar held in Yerevan.
We remind our Azerbaijani colleagues that Bernard Fassier was in Yerevan on March 11-13. In the course of his visit he never mentioned “occupied territories”, though noted that “what was possible in Kosovo cannot be applied to Karabakh.”
