On July 21, the Investigation Division of the Central District Police Department, Yerevan, initiated criminal proceedings on the case of assault and battery. The sufferer is Khristofor Elazyan, a supporter of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and former political prisoner, who was sentenced to 4-year imprisonment in the March 1 case and later amnestied. Two ANC members – Arakel Semirajyan and Hovhanes Harutyunyan – are the accused. The incident occurred at the ANC central office on July 19.

Talking to the Aravot (Morning) newspaper, one of the ANC members said that Elazyan was not at all beaten and was just slandering.

An Aravot photojournalist visited Elazyan and took pictures of his bruises on the hand and head.
