YEREVAN. – Iran is interested that Armenia’s positions in the region do not weaken.
Analytical Centre on Globalization and Regional Cooperation (ACGRC) Director, political scientist Stepan Grigoryan, noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Saturday.
In his words, the lifting of the international sanctions imposed upon Iran and the strengthening of this country’s positions is solely in Armenia’s interests, from the regional perspective.
“This will have a positive impact on Armenia, and first and foremost, on the Karabakh conflict, since Iran’s position on this matter is quite objective. It’s clear that Iran’s ‘voice’ will be better heard in the world.
“Second, it’s apparent that Iran will act based on political considerations in many issues. It’s very important for Armenia to have an alternative in every issue. The Iran-Armenia [natural] gas pipeline may become such alternative; this is actually a very realistic project,” Grigoryan noted. The ACGRC director added that, in this case, a closed Armenian-Turkish border will be meaningless.
