“Russia always used the risks of war resumption in its own interests. The supply of arms to Azerbaijan by Russia should be viewed in this context,” Head of “Heritage” parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan told the reporters on Monday.
“On the one hand, Russia supplies weapons to Azerbaijan, on the other hand offers Armenia to strengthen joint security guarantees, thus provides Armenia with stronger defensive mechanisms,” Safaryan said.
According to him, if one draws attention to the periods when risks of war increased, it can be clearly seen Russia always benefited from the situations.
“After the Karabakh war in particular, when the threat by Azerbaijan increased in addition to Turkey’s blockade on Armenia, Yerevan signed important agreements with Russia. The evidence thereof is the Georgian-Ossetian war as well,” Safaryan said. The MP stressed presently Russia is trying to get benefit, on the one hand selling weapons to Azerbaijan, which constantly makes warlike statements, on the other hand devaluating the arms it supplies to the country.
