The Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) forecasts a considerable rise in international prices. In its monetary policy program for the 3rd quarter of 2010 published on August 2, the CBA forecasts a lower yield of crops in Russia and in a number of European countries because of the drought. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, forecasts a decrease in the world grain reserves from 193m tons down to 187m tons for 2010-2011, with a stable consumption level considered.
In 2009, the CIS ensured 20% of the world of grain supplies.
Experts fear the rise in grain prices may cause a domino effect, affecting corn and legumes prices.
