Representatives of the Department of fight against trafficking and smuggling and Control over double taxation of RA Ministry of State Revenue prevented an opium smuggling attempt to Armenia.

Kapan region residents Igor Nikoghosyan and Arthur Barseghyan’s attempted to do so, using their bodies as containers. Once getting this information, operating officers took the apprehended in customs station to Agarak hospital, Meghri. The medical intervention resulted in 0.5 kg of opium extraction.

Recalling, that according to the decree №691 of the RA Minister of Health as of year 2003, the quantity of 25g is already a large batch. At 1g of opium costing 20 0000s AMD, the confiscated consignment comes to 10mln AMD. The investigation is under way.
