The authoritative Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram published an article on Armenian Genocide by publicist and international law expert Ayman Salama.

The author of the article underscores that the authorities of the Ottoman Empire committed a genocide against the Armenians. In his judgments Salama refers to the UN Convention provisions.

Ayman Salama, who took part in the Global Forum ‘Against the Crime of Genocide’ held in Yerevan on April 22-23, gives a detailed substantiation of the necessity to recognize the 1915 Armenian Genocide. According to him, the denial is incompatible with morality, as well as human and legal values. It is the main obstacle in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey.

Condemning Ankara’s conduct, Salama writes that the current Turkish government insists on the fact that in 1915 ‘only’ 300 thousand people died allegedly because of certain weather conditions. The author stresses that bringing the people to such conditions is a crime per se, and corresponds to the concept of genocide.

“Investigation of the truth is undoubtedly a primary matter. This is not an end in itself, but is aimed at the prevention of further human rights violations and insurance of the rule of law,” the author writes.
