Azerbaijani press raised another disinformation wave with regard to the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Executive Council session held in Croatian city Rovinj on May 27-29. The adopted decisions and comments are presented as far-fetched and arbitrary.   

Back at the 99th session held in Samarkand in fall 2014, Azerbaijan introduced a politicized resolution project contradicting the organization’s objectives. With the efforts of the Armenian side, the resolution was withdrawn from the agenda without discussion, being transferred to the Ethics Committee, since the Executive Council members stated that the issue contradicted the mission and objectives of the organization.

During the session in Rovinj, the Executive Council Members discussed the recommendation of the Ethics Committee, without touching on the project introduced by Azerbijan for the second time. Consequently, the Council took into consideration the Ethics Committee recommendation, clearly mentioning that in case of any other question on that subject the reference can be made only to the aforementioned recommendation.  

It is also clearly stated that tourism contributes to the alleviation of international conflicts and disputes between states, as well as establishment of peace all over the world.

This way Azerbaijan’s efforts to palter the facts were stooped. Their attempt to politicize the question was received with scathing denunciation.
