U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee John Kerry to discuss the appointment of the U.S. Ambassadors to different countries, Assistant Secretary Philip Crowley told a briefing on August 4.

According to him, U.S. is anxious to get the nominees into positions. During the meeting Hillary Clinton expressed concern to Senator Kerry regarding key nominees, in particular nominee to be the Ambassador to Syria, and Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Reminded of Matthew Bryza’s nomination, the Assistant Secretary said, “ I did mention two that perhaps are subject to holds and may well be subject to holds after tomorrow. We’ll see what happens with the Senate this week. We do expect to get a number of confirmations through the Senate tomorrow. We hope, including Jim Jeffrey, to be the ambassador in Baghdad, and Matt Bryza as well. I certainly was not saying that – we have a number of deserving candidates who hope to get on the job as quickly as possible.”
