YEREVAN. - Hearings on the Armenian-Turkish relations will be held in the Armenian Parliament in September 2015, Artak Zakaryan, Armenian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, the parliament is going to hold the hearings on occasion of the 6th anniversary of the Zurich protocols on establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey.  

Responding to the question on whether the Committee is ready to invite representatives of civil society and MP colleagues from Turkey, Zakaryan said: “We’ll think of this question. There’s still enough time. As you know, in all our hearings we attempted to maximally engage and hear out all the parties concerned,” Zakaryan said.

Armenia and Turkey have no diplomatic relations, the Armenian-Turkish border having been closed since 1993 on the initiative of the official Ankara. The process of the normalization of relations was initiated in 2008. On 10 October 2009 Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian and Turkey’s FM Ahmet Davutoğlu signed in Zurich a Protocol on Establishment of Diplomatic Relations and Protocol on Development of Bilateral Relations, which were to be ratified in the parliaments of both countries. However Ankara began to advance preconditions on Karabakh conflict, thus stalling the normalization process. Consequently, the Armenian-Turkish protocols were withdrawn from the Armenian parliament pursuant to the order of Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan.
