YEREVAN. - The rise in the power consumption tariff is not advantageous to the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), RPA spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News – NEWS.am after the RPA Executive Body session on Thursday.  

He also said that on June 12 Armenian parliament will hold hearings with this respect, during which the objectivity of raising the price of the power consumption by 17 AMD will be discussed.   

“We are against inappropriate price hikes and I’m sure that both the opposition and government MPs will turn down the price hike, since 17 AMD is too high a price. Discussions will be held, since 17 AMD is not the true and objective proposal which has been made. But this is my personal opinion, which isn’t professional, and whether there will be price hike or not will be clear only after the specialist discussion,” Sharmazanov said.

Sharmazanov also said that with regard to this matter he had had discussions with Yevgeny Bibin, Director of Electric Network of Armenia CJSC and Robert Nazaryan, Chairman of Public Services Regulatory Commission.

Electric Network of Armenia has addressed the Public Services Regulatory Commission for raising the power consumption tariff. Currently the tariff for 1 kWh is 47,85 AMD in daytime and 31,85 AMD at night. The company proposes to raise the price up to 48 and 48 AMD respectively.
