YEREVAN. – During the tenure of Levon Ter-Petrosyan—the First President of Armenia and Founding Chairman of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party—the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) did not speak about Nagorno-Karabakh in the way that it does now.

Head of the ANC National Assembly (NA) Faction, Levon Zurabyan, said the abovementioned at Friday’s NA briefings. He stated this with respect to the PACE decision to prepare a report titled, “Escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and the other occupied territories of Azerbaijan.”

“On the contrary, in Ter-Petrosyan’s days [as President], the PACE recognized the inalienable rights of the Armenian people. This was managed to be achieved owing to the smart and circumspect foreign policy of the [then-]leadership [of Armenia],” Zurabyan added. “But after the regime change [in the country], the situation has worsened, and ever since 2005, the PACE makes such wordings.”
