The Russian Railways company has issued a statement. The announcement was released in response to press reports citing company President Vladimir Yakunin’s statement that the Iran-Armenia railway construction project is unproductive, and therefore it has no prospects.

“Russian Railways believes that, from the geopolitical perspective, this project has an important strategic significance for Armenia, in terms of integrating the country into the Eurasian and global transport system.

“[But] at the same time, (…) the implementation [of this project] is very difficult without state support,” specifically reads the statement, which is posted on the website of the Russian Railways company.
