The summer camp in Kinaliada, one of the Princes’ Islands, has been open for Armenian children for the recent 50 years, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

According to Zevan Chavushyan, president of the administrative board, the camp is the only school among non-Muslim community institutions that is not tied to the Ministry of Education.

“Although we are not under the authority of Education Ministry, when it comes to the issue of children from Armenia we have to abide to the regulations on minority schools. We can therefore only accept the children of Armenian families that are citizen of Turkey,” he told Hurriyet Daily News.

Chavushyan also noted that the number of Armenian children visiting the camp decreased, as “a significant number of community members have migrated to different countries.” This year only 130 children will arrive, though the camp used to host 250 each year, he stressed.
