“One can hardly imagine any Armenian government that will raise the question of withdrawal of the Russian troops in foreseeable future. However, the approach incumbent authorities are adherent to is beyond state consciousness. The matter is not the expected signing of the Armenian-Russian protocols that will prolong the stay of Russian bases in Armenia for 24 years. It is more significant that under the amended agreement the Russian armed forces are to ensure Armenia’s security,” reads the article.   

“There is an impression that the Russian base will be granted powers of a government. Ensuring security is the main task of state bodies and participation of the Russian base in fulfilling of this task is a legally confirmed fact. In order to realize all the risks, one should remember that being a force-minister in Armenia is something more than being just a minister and sometimes even more than a president. Thus, we can imagine what power an official might have if he is supported by a superpower, in case the agreements are signed,” the newspaper says.
