YEREVAN. - Yerevan resident Julietta Amarikyan, who spent a month in a psychiatric hospital and was discharged from there upon an alert received by Helsinki Citizens Assembly Vanzadzor Office, will undergo forensic psychiatric assessment by an Armenian specialist, Amarikyan’s attorney Tigran Hayrapetyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.   

According to him, the inspector turned down their application to involve international experts in the assessment.

“The investigator noted in the refusal document that he had applied to [Armenia’s] Healthcare Ministry with a request to get a permit. But the Ministry didn’t allow inviting an international expert, since the professional skills of one of the experts from Georgia didn’t correspond to the qualifications of a doctor-psychiatrist in Armenia. The education of the second specialist didn’t correspond to the legislation in force,” Hayrapetyan said.

He said that the examination scheduled on July 21 was carried out by Armenian specialists.

Upon the call of her relatives, Julietta Amarikyan was taken to Armenia’s Avan psychiatric hospital by Ambulance in 2013 to undergo mandatory treatment. She was diagnosed with mental disease in the form of delirium.  Amarikyan was discharged from the psychiatric hospital after 28 days. Criminal case has been filed on the ground of the information presented by Julietta Amarikyan and her attorney. Preliminary investigation is underway.
