YEREVAN. - Import of clothes by containers is carried out in accordance with the law in Armenia, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Finance Armen Alaverdyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

In his words, claims that importers import clothes and other items of non-food goods in closed containers without examination do not correspond to reality.

“If the container is closed, this doesn’t change anything. The customs has scanning equipment, and we can see the contents very well,” Alaverdyan said.

The important thing for the Finance Ministry during the examination is that the consignment should not differ significantly from the declared one in volume, its value not being quite distinct from the market value.

“But, apparently, we do not count one by one each shirt or pair of child socks. It is physically impossible,” the Deputy Minister said.

Any import passes through such a procedure, regardless of whether the goods were imported by the entrepreneur himself or were transported upon the order to the container company. According to him, the claims that such companies import cargo without examination and invoices are far-fetched.

In any case, the importer should have an invoice. And according to the decision, adopted in December 2014, the process of invoice preparation and its provision to small businessmen has been facilitated. “But given that the overhead costs do not significantly differ from the market prices,” Alaverdyan said.
