The 5th garrison court of Russia’s North Caucasus District Military Court today held a hearing, during which Russian military base soldier Valery Permyakov, who brutally killed 6 members of Avetisyan family in Armenia’s Gyumri city, was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in a tight institution without penalties and on an unrestricted basis. This refers to only part of the actions Permyakov was charged with. The other part referring to the murder of the Avetisyan family is tried by the Armenian Investigative Committee (photos)
Judge Alexander Sheldyaev, presiding over the court, read out the verdict, according to which the defendant rules sane and his guilt is fully proven.
Valery Permyakov is charged under Article 338 (2), Article 226 (3) and Article 222 (1) of the Russian Criminal Code. Being a soldier, he left the duty area without leave to avoid military service, carrying armament and ammunition.
According to the Agreement between the Russian Federation and Republic of Armenia on issues of jurisdiction and mutual legal aid regarding the presence of the Russian military base in the territory of Armenia (29 August, 1997), the criminal case files on the murder of the Avetisyan family were transferred to the Armenian law enforcement authorities on July 13.
