YEREVAN. - Yerevan municipality wants to maximally reduce the construction project price of 2 new metro stations in Yerevan, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Vahe Nikoyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am, commenting on the plans of constructing two new metro stations in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak district. This project was halted after the fall of the USSR.
Considering the resettlement in Ajapnyak, the European consultants, invited in the framework of the EBRD grant, proposed to remove one of the stations from the center of Yerevan’s Halabyan street to its end (close to the Republican Hospital), and leave the second one by Gevorg Chaush square (between the 15th and 16th districts).
The consultants proposed 4 options. The cheapest one-way station will cost Euro 160 million, while the most expensive one Euro 260 million.
“We think that the one-way option, in case of which trains will travel in turn, can actually become a satisfying decision. But I think that even Euro 160 million is a very large amount for our country and city,” Nikoyan said.
For this reason, the municipality proposed to discuss even cheaper alternatives, for instance, by opening a way out to certain scarcely populated districts. The project will cost much cheaper then. “If the final amount becomes available for our city budget, I’m sure nobody will be more interested than we in constructing to the benefit of the citizens,” the Deputy Mayor said.
