Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has threatened Germany with not extraditing any criminals from Turkey in the future if the country refuses to extradite Prosecutor Zekeriya Öz, the Turkish newspaper Today's Zaman reports.

Erdoğan made the threat even though the Interpol has not yet issued Red Notice for Öz.

Speaking to civil society organizations in his hometown of Rize, President Erdoğan said an Interpol Red Notice would be issued shortly for Öz and another former prosecutor Celal Kara. “We will see what Germany does when a Red Notice is issued,” he said.

“If Germany doesn't extradite Öz, it will never see another criminal extradited to them with Tayyip Erdoğan's signature,” the president said, referring to himself in the third person. “Turkey is not a primitive state,” Erdoğan added.

It has been claimed the interim Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government and Erdoğan are seeking revenge on these prosecutors who since Dec. 17, 2013 had handled probes into alleged coup and large-scale corruption cases among key figures of the AK Party, including then-Prime Minister Erdoğan's inner circle and family members.

Outspoken journalist Arzu Yıldız said Öz might have been assassinated if he had been detained by the police.

According to the Turkish press, former Turkish prosecutor Zekeriya Öz, who handled probes into alleged coup and large-scale corruption cases in Turkey’s governmental circles fled with a colleague to Germany via Georgia and Armenia after learning of an upcoming arrest, According to the reports, Öz flew to Germany from Armenia on August 11. He didn’t encounter any problems since the arrest warrant had not been issued then. It remains unknown whether he is still in Germany or has left for another country. 

Nevertheless, Armenia’s National Security Service stated that persons with such names and surnames did not enter Armenia.
