The level of Armenian-Russian relations is not “just high, but it is strategic partnership, it is an alliance, RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in his interview with the Public Television of Armenia.

According to him, the materials the sides are preparing for the Russian leader’s visit cover the political, military strategic, economic and humanitarian fields – “all the fields typical of the relations between two very close states.”

“Regional and international problems will be discussed as well. We are closely cooperating not only in the post-Soviet area within the CIS, CSTO, EurAsEC, where Armenia has observer status, but also within various international agencies in Europe – OSCE, Council of Europe, U.N. So, since the world situation is not simple now, I am sure the two Presidents have something to discuss in this context,” Lavrov said.

“We are allies in the CSTO, all this being based on centuries-old history of our co-existence, friendship and mutual assistance. We hold all the traditions sacred, upholding them. I think we can say with confidence that our relations are developing in all the fields,” Lavrov said.

On August 19, at the invitation of RA President Serzh Sargsyan, RF President Dmitry Medvedev is arriving for a state visit to Armenia.

The Russian President is to visit the Memorial to Armenian Genocide victims and lay flowers. President Medvedev will participate in the opening ceremony of the military cemetery Hill of Honor in Gyumri, the burial place of Russian officers killed in the Russian-Turkish wars in the 19th century.

Unprecedented security measures are being taken in Yerevan on this occasion.

An informal summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is to be held in Armenia on August 20-22.
