The defense and security issues are guaranteed by Armenia's new draft Constitution, Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am in the framework of “Baze-2015” Pan-Armenian Youth Gathering held in Armenia's spa town Tsaghkadzor.
Ohanyan added that the command and management vertical line, which must replace the existing one, ensuring its complete management, is also guaranteed.
“Of course, we understand our indirect participation in terms of defense and security in the process of constitutional reforms. I’d say army is one of those structures, which has a culture of both management and cooperation with different institutions,” Ohanyan said.
Army, according to the Minister, is already an established institution, which can’t be destroyed. In the conditions of a new form of governance, the army will be much more powerful, he said.
Armenian President Adjunct Specialized Commission on Constitutional Reforms adopted a decision Thursday to approve the draft constitutional reforms with attached substantiations, which it submitted to Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan. The latter submitted Armenia's draft constitutional reforms to the parliament today.
Starting from next week, Sargsyan plans to conduct consultations with the representatives of the republic’s political forces over the approaches included in the draft constitutional reforms.
The president also instructed the Specialized Commission to continue the dialogue with PACE Venice Commission on the issues introduced in its provisional opinion, concerning which agreement hasn’t yet been reached.
