YEREVAN. – The Republican Party of Armenia plans to hold parliamentary elections in 2017 after constitutional referendum and Serzh Sargsyan will not be the person to be elected chairman of the National Assembly, chairman of opposition ANC faction said.

Head of president's staff called Zurabyan and conveyed an offer to start consultations with political parties from the Armenian National Congress, the politician told reporters.

“I told him we do realize the purpose of this constitutional process. We believe this goal is unacceptable. We are confident that any conversations about the matter are senseless, since the objective will not change,” Zurabyan added.

The full text of the draft constitutional reform has been sent to the parliament. The reforms suggest transition to the parliamentary system of government.
