The helicopter of the Armenian and Russian Presidents has landed in Gyumri, the second-largest city in Armenia. 

On August 20, the Russian and Armenian leaders will participate in the opening ceremony of the military cemetery Hill of Honor in Gyumri, the burial place of 156 Russian officers killed in the Russian-Turkish wars in the 19th century.

The Hill of Honor is a military cemetery constructed in 1856 under instruction of Chief Commander of Caucasian corps General Nikolay Muravyov.  

The Russian military base #102 is deployed in Gyumri as well. A protocol on the prolongation of deployment of the base was signed in Yerevan today. The document was signed by the Russian Defense Minister Anatoliy Serdyukov and his Armenian counterpart Seyran Ohanyan.

Under the protocol, the military base will remain in Armenia for the next 49 years (instead of 25 years). It will also ensure Armenia’s security.
