The aircraft of German armed forces carrying the first group of the Armenian peacekeepers has landed in Yerevan.

The Armenian troops have served under German command as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) since 2010 beginning in the Afghan province of Kunduz. The Armenian servicemen have been ensuring security of the airport in Kunduz.

On August 18, Azerbaijan did not allow a German plane flying from Afghanistan to Armenia to enter its airspace. However, the plane flew to Cologne, Germany, and the Armenian peacemakers returned to Armenia from there.

The RA Minister of Defense views it as an attempt to disrupt the supply to NATO forces in Afghanistan and block the use of Armenia’s airspace and airports for transportations to Afghanistan. At present the Armenian side is discussing necessary steps to prohibit the access to its airspace for planes carrying military cargoes to Azerbaijan.

Armenia has never blocked flights of the aircrafts heading from Turkey to Azerbaijan, as well as those heading from Azerbaijan to Afghanistan and back.
