Kyrgyzstan can count on Russia’s support in overcoming problems the country has faced, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said during the meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Roza Otunbayeva in Sevan. According to him, the CSTO leaders focused attention to the situation in Kyrgyzstan during the meeting when Roza Otunbayeva delivered a speech.

Medvedev noted that they had openly discussed the developments and ways of assistance to Kyrgyzstan, ITAR TASS reported. He also stressed that the Russian-Kyrgyz relations also have a bilateral dimension, adding that bilateral ties had intensified lately.

Earlier, the Russian leader said the CSTO summit participants discussed the situation in Kyrgyzstan. “We should draw lessons from the situation in Kyrgyzstan. We discussed steps that would facilitate the formation of statehood in Kyrgyzstan. There are numerous problems there, but we will help. By December the CSTO will have drafted the amendments to its constituent documents to prevent situation similar to that in Kyrgyzstan,” Medvedev said.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, Armenia is hosting the CSTO informal summit on August 20-22. The leaders of organization’s member states, Presidents of Kyrgyzstan - Roza Otunbayeva, Tajikistan - Emomalii Rahmon, Kazakhstan – Nursultan Nazarbayev have arrived in Yerevan. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in  Armenia's capital two days before the CSTO informal summit. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his spouse arrived on a state visit to Armenia on August 19.
