YEREVAN. - New country road in Armenia’s Syunik province will cost about 20 million AMD per 1 km (approx. $41,000 USD), as reported by Armenia’s Transport Ministry press-service.

The overall length of the road is 14 km, the overall cost being about 270 million AMD, the Ministry representative said.

The work carried out by the road building company of Armenia’s Sisian town, is part of the World Bank’s “Improvement of Roads of Vital Importance” program. The project aims to repair the sections of the interstate road leading to Sisian town and Shaki, Tolors, Bnunis, Torunik villages, as well as Dastakert town.

The road under construction is not asphaltic, but sand-and-gravel because of the large number of heavy vehicles on the route. The roads in the villages are being asphalted.
