YEREVAN. – The makeshift outdoor construction freight elevator had fell—on Monday morning in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan—while testing, said a construction worker at the site, speaking to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“They had just built it; it wasn’t used at all,” said the worker. “They were testing it to see whether or not it was working in normal fashion.

“The elevator is 60 meters high; the cable had snapped at 10 to 20 meters high. One man had jumped out from inside; the other couldn’t.”

According to the construction plan, a house will be built at this construction site.

The two injured, 40-year-old Sargis Ghazaryan and 60-year-old Paruyr Stepanyan, were working there as welder and supplier.

After the incident, they were taken to Saint Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center in Yerevan.

Stepanyan had sustained craneo-encephalic trauma, and he is in critical condition. Ghazaryan has broken his arm bone and he has scratches; he is in moderate critical condition.
