A group of archaeologists have discovered, in Turkey’s Diyarbakır Province, the ruins of a church that was built by the Roman Empire’s subjects who were the first to adopt Christianity, TASS news agency of Russia reported citing Haberler news portal of Turkey.

As per Aytaç Coşkun, head of the aforementioned group of archaeologists from Dicle University in Diyarbakır city, this church is located completely underground.

In all likelihood, this house of Christian worship is one of the oldest churches discovered in Turkey, and which the first local Christians had begun to use.

The archaeologists also found Aramaic inscriptions on the walls of the structure, and crosses that were carved into stones.
