The agreement on a new nuclear reactor signed with Russia implies Russian partners’ participation and investments in the construction project, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated in his interview with the Public Television of Armenia.
The large-scale project is estimated at U.S. $5bn. “Our Russian partners will participate in the investment project, which is, in fact, the aim of the agreement. We will cooperate with our partners. It will be a new project, whereafter the public will get detailed information on the project. The NPP construction is supposed to improve the quality of the Armenian energy sector. It will be a modern NPP, which will considerably increase the capacity of the Armenian energy sector. It means that our industry will have better development prospects,” Premier Sargsyan said. Referring to the Armenian President, he reminded the journalists that the designed capacity of the new NPP is 1,000 MW.
As regards the issues of the agenda of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission, Sargsyan said: “First, we are doing our best to expand cooperation. We have to diversify our economies, which means diversifying our agenda by including such issues as modernizing our economies, implementing joint innovation projects. We are carrying out necessary work. The second feature is that we pay much attention to direct ties between Armenian and Russian regions. The Intergovernmental Commission held its latest sitting in Yaroslavl. The next sitting will be held in Yekaterinburg, which helps our regions conclude agreements with Russian regions.”
