Austrian chancellor Werner Faymann stated that the statements of Hungary’s PM Viktor Orban on Syrian refugees remind of the Nazi times, Deutsche Welle reports.

“Sticking refugees in trains and sending them somewhere completely different to where they think they’re going reminds us of the darkest chapter of our continent’s history,” he said, Gazeta reports.

Besides, Faymann urged to impose financial sanctions against Hungary and other EU states, which don’t want to host the refugees by obligatory quotas. “To overcome the influx of refugees, sanctions should be imposed on those states which violate the principle of solidarity,” he said.

As a punishment, Faymann proposed to reduce the funds provided from EU’s structural means to Eastern European member-states.
