YEREVAN. – Over the course of the past 24 years, the effectiveness of the judicial power and justice system could not be ensured in Armenia.

Member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction, Levon Martirosyan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday.

Martirosyan added that the new draft Constitution envisions changes also in the judiciary of the country.

“Even though independence of the judicial power is envisioned also under the current Constitution, the reality is different,” said the RPA MP. “I hope that, with the amendments to the Constitution, an independent and effective judicial power will be able to be formed.”

The new draft Constitution of Armenia has been forwarded to the NA, and the respective parliamentary debates will get underway on Tuesday. Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, with a completely proportional voting system.
