YEREVAN. – The President-affiliated Specialized Committee on Constitutional Reforms of Armenia may reconsider the new draft Constitution point which stipulates that, in time of war, the supreme command of the country’s armed forces is transferred to the Prime Minister.

Constitutional law expert Vardan Poghosyan, who is also a member of the aforesaid committee, said the abovementioned at Wednesday’s National Assembly session, as he continued introducing the proposed constitutional reform. He noted this in response to ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Samvel Farmanyan’s recommendation that, in consideration of Armenia’s involvement in the recent Karabakh war, the term “in time of war” in the new draft be replaced by “in time of a military situation.”

“By writing ‘in time of war,’ we meant de jure war,” said Poghosyan. “[But] it may be considered and replaced with the term ‘[in time of a] military situation.’”
