YEREVAN. - Erdal Merkan, who had arrived in Armenia from Turkey’s Diyarbakir city and was refused to be christened in the Armenian Apostolic Church, will still be christened in Armenia but next year, Aragats Akhoyan, Armenian MP and authorized representative of the National Congress of Western Armenians (NCWA) told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

“Turkey’s inter-political situation doesn’t allow Erdal Merkan to come to Armenia and get christened. I think he will manage to come to Armenia only next year,” Akhoyan said, noting that he is going to be the godfather.

After getting a refusal in Armenia, Merkan made a changed in the affiliation line of his passport, which now indicates “Armenian Christian” so that he can be christened in the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Merkan visited Armenia in early August wishing to get christened, but he got a refusal from the Armenian Apostolic Church.
